The Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, at Universitas Negeri Malang (UM), is pleased to announce the commencement of the International Short Courses with the theme “From Algorithms to Education: Exploring the Vital Role of Mathematics in IT Development and Education,” scheduled from the 12th of July to the 30th of August 2023. The entire program will be conducted online, utilizing both synchroous platforms, such as Google Meeting and Zoom Cloud Meeting, as well as an asynchronous approach through the MOOC UM platform.

The course materials will be delivered by esteemed experts in their respective fields, ensuring an engaging learning experience. The program encompasses two main areas: mathematics and mathematics education.

In the field of Mathematics Education, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Noor Azean Atan from Universiti Teknologi Malaya will present on “Gamification in Learning” and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hutkemri from the University of Malaya will present on “Innovation Technology”. In the “Gamification in Learning” session, participants will learn about incorporating game elements and mechanisms into the learning process. In the “Innovation Technology” session, participants will learn about the application of innovative technology that can revolutionize teaching, learning, and interactions in education.

In the field of Mathematics, Assoc. Prof. TS Dr. Ahmad Kadri Junoh from Universiti Malaysia Perlis will present on “Python Programming and Statistical Analysis with Python,” and Aleams Barra, M.Si., Ph.D. from Institut Teknologi Bandung, will present on “Coding Theory”. In the “Python Programming and Statistical Analysis with Python” session, participants will learn about the Python programming language and its application in statistical analysis. In the “Coding Theory” session, participants will learn about one of the mathematical branches associated with coding techniques employed to secure and rectify data transmitted through unreliable channels.

Upon completion of the sessions, all participants will be assigned a mini-project, which they will present. The top three presenters from each field (mathematics and mathematics education) will be recognized and rewarded with captivating prizes. Furthermore, all participants will receive certificates, invaluable networking opportunities, and knowledge that will undoubtedly enrich their academic pursuits. Additionally, students will also get credit equivalent to 2 credits for their participation.

This event aims to attract participants from diverse backgrounds, including undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students, as well as young researchers, lecturers, practitioners, and teachers, both nationally and internationally.
